Expect the unexpected, the Classics have kicked off!
Mar 03, 2025
Opening weekend of the Belgian Classics, anticipated every year as the proper start to the racing season in it's spiritual home of Belgium with Omloop Nieuwsblad. And of course the Belgian teams, Lotto with Belgian champ Arnaud De Lie, Alpecin-Deceuninck with Jasper Philipson, Quicksteps French sprint star Paul Magnier, the race has never been won by a Frenchman and of course Belgian favourite Wout Van Aert riding for Dutch super team Visma Lease a Bike . But in a predicted bunch sprint it was Norwegian strongman Soren WÆRENSKJOLD timing his final effort perfectly to edge out Philipsen and Magnier for Nordic new comers Team UnoX and the biggest win in their relatively short existence.
Sunday and another tradition with Kuurne Brussel Kuurne also ending in a bunch sprint and this time Alpecin got it perfect with Kaden Groves doing a MVDP and pulling a perfect leadout for Philipsen to go one better and take the win much to Jaspers delight and Groves joyous celebration before the line cost him and the team a fine for the now outlawed celebrating before the line rule, deemed to be for safety considerations by the UCI.
UnoX and Magnus Cort took 3 of 5 stages of the Spanish stage race O Gran Camino, completing a superb week for UnoX, with Canadian star Derick Gee taking the GC title for Isreal Premier Tech.
In the UK we got the unexpected with the weather changing to settled and sunny! Everyone is counting the days till the thermometer creeps up a bit more and we can ditch the leg warmers once and for all. Coming up this week, March 8th, we return to Tuscany and Strade Bianchi, many fans 6th Monument, a truly epic test in a truly beautiful region of Italy. Then March 22nd it's Milan San Remo, the 116th edition of la Classicissima di Primavera. The longest race on the racing calendar at 298 kilometers, it is considered the easiest of the Monuments to finish but the hardest to win with 3 small but deciding hills at the end with a death defying descent down the Paggio to the finish in San Remo on the Via Roma.
To celebrate we're giving an extra 10% discount on top of our multi purchase discounts and Free shipping with the discount code MILAN10 at checkout. So listen to the birds chirping and late sunsets and get ready to show off your brilliant white socks, like the Pro's and we'll see you next week.
Take care, ride safe.
