The Economy of Socks and the magic of Milano San Remo

The Economy of Socks and the magic of Milano San Remo

Paris Nice : and Tirreno Adriatico

Paris Nice : concluded with 2 outstanding talents showcasing the depth of class from America with the final stage being won by Magnus Sheffield of Ineos Grenadiers and overall GC winner, for the 2nd year in a row, Mateo Jorgenson of Visma Lease a Bike.  There might not be much of a domestic race calendar Stateside but for the boys and girls, men and women that make the jump across the pond the commitment to succeed really is showing through with a growing list of results against the best riders in the world.

Tirreno Adriatico Gave Juan Ayuso a chance to show his GC calibre for UAE Team Emirates without the participation of Tadej Pogacar.  He was pretty much the clear favorite coming into the race and didn’t disappoint taking the GC crown.  Another strong showing from Italian TT legend Filippo Ganna for the second step on the podium, which boded well for the next big race and first Monument of the season Milano San Remo!

Milano San Remo : Every year everyone knows the script for the longest race on the racing calendar, 280ish kilometers of more or less flat riding, a breakaway of 2nd tier teams showing their colours getting reeled in once all the favorite teams put the hammer down when they get down to the coast, the beautiful coast, and the tension just builds and builds for the battle on the Cipressa and the ultimate selection on the Paggio with a small group of favorites racing to the finish in San Remo.  But no one would put money on an attack on the Cipressa, it’s not hard enough and any favorites would surely come back after many matches burnt.  But the last couple of years riders like Tadej and MVDP have been busy re-writing the racing rule book and so they did by attacking each other again and again starting on the Cipressa with superhuman efforts, with only the aforementioned Filippo Ganna able to hold/lose regain their wheel then somehow managing to get back on, unreal, for a 3 up sprint to the line with MVDP taking his 2nd MSR title with race favorite Tadej falling to 3rd place behind a monsterl effort by Ganna.

Truly an historical edition of Milan San Remo!  So much respect for that podium.
